One-of-a-kind technology: open orthopedic surgery simulator

On Janary 7, 2016, HMR was given its first virtual reality open surgery training simulator (knee reconstruction via total arthroplasty).

The simulator was developed by OSSimTech in partnership with three orthopedic surgeons: Dr. Marc Isler and Dr. Vincent Massé from HMR and Dr. Véronique Godbout from CHUM. The simulator allows residents to build their confidence, develop dexterity by enabling them to drill and saw bones with an eye to minimizing patient risks, while reducing the stress associated with learning their discipline. The SIM-KTM simulator is a fantastic training tool for the medical education community, and the Foundation is proud to have contributed $10,000 to help create it.
