Over 130 HMR Doctors and Employees Run to Raise $85,000

We enjoyed 48 hours of pure happiness, friendship and generosity during the Scotiabank Charity Challenge 2018, which was held on Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd. On a magnificent sunny day, spoiled by perfect weather and surrounded by family, over 130 HMR doctors and employees braved the 5 km, 10 km and 21 km races. Imbued with the spirit of achievement and generosity, the races helped raise $85,000 for the HMR thanks to the runners’ efforts and the contribution of those who supported them.

The whole HMR Foundation team is very proud to have shattered its own previous records during its second participation in the Challenge! This outstanding success stems from the boundless engagement of the 19 teams from the HMR and from outside the hospital who did not hesitate to get involved and support the realization of key projects in their department.   “This level of enthusiasm demonstrates a willingness to improve the quality of care at the hospital. Our runners and walkers showed great determination and generosity by taking on this challenge; qualities that truly reflect HMR patient care staff and the Foundation’s employees,” declared Lucie Drapeau, Executive Director of the HMR Foundation and a participant in 5 km race.

At the Challenge, several HMR departments were represented by highly motivated teams who were able to raise between $75 and $21,825.

The Foundation wishes to highlight the remarkable mobilization of the Emergency team that raised the unbelievable sum of $21,825. “I am very proud of my team,” stated Marie-Ève Désilets, Emergency Unit Doctor and team captain. “Our $10,000 objective was ambitious and yet we doubled it! These funds will be used to purchase equipment for our simulation laboratory, which enables us to recreate as realistically as possible the critical clinical situations that we deal with. This laboratory will also enable us to enhance the knowledge and skills of all medical and paramedical team responders to safely take charge of patients, and especially to perfect our responses. Many thanks to everyone who provided financial and emotional support to help meet this great challenge!”
