Over 130 HMR Doctors and Employees Run for their Hospital!

Montréal, April 23, 2018 – The Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Foundation (FHMR) marked its second participation by shattering its own records at the Scotiabank Charity Challenge, which was held on April 21 and 22 at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Over 130 runners from the HMR, split into 19 teams, crossed the finish line and raised $85,000 to realize key projects that will benefit east end Montréal patients.

This sports charity challenge has elicited unprecedented mobilization among HMR patient care staff and employees. “We doubled the number of participants and funds raised during our second year,” declared Lucie Drapeau, Executive Director of the HMR Foundation and a participant in 5 km challenge. “This level of enthusiasm demonstrates a willingness to improve the quality of care at the hospital. Our runners and walkers showed great determination and generosity by taking on this challenge; qualities that truly reflect HMR patient care staff.”

All of the funds raised will go directly to supporting projects that are essential for HMR patients. Under the theme “We are doing it for us!” walkers and runners from the HMR Foundation team were invited to take on the challenge for their own department, or to support the general needs of the hospital. Teams from the HMR ophthalmology, gastroenterology, surgery, emergency, oncology, radiation-oncology, pediatrics, neonatal, hemato-oncology, urology, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics-gynecology and the organ and tissue donation units, as well as from the professional services and volunteer services departments, spontaneously got together to take part in the charity event with HMR Foundation employees.

The Foundation wishes to highlight the remarkable mobilization of the Emergency Unit team that raised $21,825. “I am very proud of my team,” stated Marie-Ève Désilets, Emergency Unit Doctor and team captain. “Our $10,000 objective was ambitious and we doubled it! These funds will be used to purchase equipment for our simulation laboratory, which enables us to recreate as realistically as possible the critical clinical situations that we deal with. This laboratory will also enable us to enhance the knowledge and skills of all medical and paramedical team responders to safely take charge of patients, and especially to perfect our responses. Many thanks to everyone who provided financial and emotional support to meet this great challenge!”
