Montréal, April 30, 2019 – The Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) Foundation mobilized over 130 HMR doctors and employees to participate in the 5, 10 and 21 km races, on April 27 and 28 at Parc Jean-Drapeau, for the Scotiabank Charity Challenge. Sixteen teams from different hospital departments and three teams of patients rallied for weeks to prepare for the race and to raise funds in order to win this sports charity challenge. They raised over $60,000 to carry out projects that meet patients’ immediate needs.

For the third consecutive year, patient care staff gathered to carry out projects that they have initiated in their own department and that will be realized thanks to their generosity. “Each year, HMR doctors and employees surprise us with their enthusiasm and determination to always do more for the well-being of their patients!” declared Lucie Drapeau, Executive Director of the HMR Foundation. “After three years, we have been able to see the fruits of these efforts through the realization of projects that are as original as they are crucial within several HMR departments. At the HMR Foundation, we are so pleased and so fortunate to work hand in hand with the patient care staff.”

Teams from the HMR ergotherapy, logistics, neonatal, obstetrics-gynecology, clinical research, ophthalmology, ORL, pediatrics, radiation-oncology, intensive care, emergency and cancer care units as well as the diabetes day clinic, the Research Centre and the professional services and volunteer services departments spontaneously got together to take part in the event along with HMR Foundation employees who were already on track.

The HMR Foundation thanks all participating teams and congratulates two teams in particular who really stood out. For the second year in a row, the Emergency Department team raised the most money, exceeding the $10,000 mark. These funds will be used to buy a pediatric manikin that will enable medical staff to perfect their knowledge and effectively respond to complex emergencies. As for the ORL team, they succeeded in mobilizing over 21 runners from the department to support the cause.
