4 July 2023
Montréal, July 4, 2023 – The Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) Foundation is proud to announce that it has obtained ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification, an international standard that provides a framework for identifying, assessing and managing information security and cybersecurity risks. At the end of an 18-month process, the organization became the first Quebec foundation to be certified, and one of the first in the country to meet ISO/IEC 27001:2013 requirements.
In collaboration with VARS, the cybersecurity division of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, the HMR Foundation carried out an internal audit to implement robust control measures, guaranteeing compliance with the highest security standards. “ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification from independent firm MSECB demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the security of our information assets. Our proactive approach reduces our vulnerabilities, increases our resilience to threats and promotes the adoption of good information security management practices by our entire team,” said HMR Foundation Executive Director Julie Desharnais.
Obtaining ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification marks one of the first milestones in the major project to accelerate the Foundation’s compliance with Law 25 on the protection of personal information. “We will remain vigilant in the face of technological developments and emerging security threats, offering technological tools and ongoing awareness programs to our team to ensure compliance with the highest security standards,” said Julie Desharnais.
This approach reflects the HMR Foundation’s stated desire to serve as a model for other philanthropic organizations, encouraging them to set up effective processes and controls to protect their sensitive information, as the Foundation has done for its donors, partners, employees and volunteers.
