One Last Act, to Ensure That Life Goes On…

Thérèse Ouimet was a determined, courageous and resilient woman. The youngest of 10 children, she worked hard as a hairdresser all of her life. Thérèse was talented and passionate. She idolized Dominique Michel and she had one dream: To meet her idol.

Hospitalized at the end of her life in the Palliative Care unit of the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) following a battle with cancer, Thérèse decided to make one last hope-filled gesture by donating $100,000 to the HMR Foundation, dedicating the funds to the cause supported by Dominique Michel, the Integrated Cancer Centre.

To help make Thérèse’s dream come true, her loved ones organized a lovely surprise. In cahoots with the HMR Foundation Team, they invited Dominique Michel to her bedside so she could deliver her donation in person. The meeting between the two women was a powerful moment and very emotional. Dominique Michel was extremely moved and grateful for this woman’s incredible generosity.

A few days later, Thérèse Ouimet passed away, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 79.

The HMR Foundation offers its condolences to the family and wishes to express deep gratitude to Thérèse Ouimet. Her generous support will help improve cancer patient care at the HMR.

While she was alive, Thérèse Ouimet had the satisfaction of seeing that it is possible to leave your mark for the well-being of those who are left behind. Her action is a real source of hope and inspiration for everyone who knew her.

Just like her, you can leave your mark; it is within your power. Supporting projects that generate progress at the hospital that has cared for you since you were born, contributing to scientific progress and to the development of new treatments for diseases that remain incurable today; these are some of the philanthropic goals that you can pursue, even after you are gone. Planned giving is open to everyone.
