COVID-19: A journey into the heart of the virus
10 June 2020
Delve into the heart of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. Meet Stéphanie, Valérie, Manon, Johanne, Anjie and Paul and their amazing machines.
Before the employees arrive, Stéphanie Desrosiers and Valérie Dion prepare the saline tubes that will be used to store and transport the collected swabs.
They will then move on to their administrative duties and supervise the analyses in the microbiology laboratory.
Manon Saint-Hilaire supervises all analyses carried out in the molecular diagnostic laboratory.
Here she is seen standing next to the BioMérieux device used to extract nucleic acids from the virus.
Johanne Séguin carries coolers filled with samples that will have to be checked and sorted before being sent for cleaning and analysis.
Angie Jetté coordinates the arrival of samples.
She responds to requests from doctors, nurses, managers and other members of the technical team.
With the closure of the CEGEPs, DEC students in Biomedical Analysis arrived as reinforcements to the laboratory, while continuing their studies through distance learning.
Paul Ouedraogo, a laboratory intern, decontaminates the tubes under a biosafety cabinet using a cloth soaked in 70% alcohol before affixing the registration label, making sure that the person’s identification information is identical.
The microbiology Laboratory’s m2000 RealTime System (Abbott Molecular) for virus detection tests. It allows for approximately 350 tests per day.
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory team got together to thank the generous anonymous donor who donated a BBQ chicken meal to each employee!
