A Prestigious Award for Two Dedicated Women
6 April 2018
Maryse Bouchard and Francine Ducas, founders of the Défi Cyclo-Myélome, received the Carolyn Henry Memorial TEAM Award from Myeloma Canada for their exceptional contribution to advocacy efforts and access to better care in Quebec for patients suffering from myeloma.
The award was presented to the two women who, for many years and especially in 2017, made great strides in advocating for myeloma patient’s rights and enabling access to better care in Quebec.
In 2013, Maryse Bouchard and Francine Ducas, who are both multiple myeloma survivors, launched the Défi Cyclo-Myélome. This annual gathering of cyclists and philanthropists brings together some one hundred participants seeking to raise the public’s awareness about this disease and to raise funds for cancer research at the HMR.
In 2017, Maryse and Francine also distinguished themselves within the Canadian myeloma community by successfully organizing a public awareness day at the National Assembly of Quebec, in which six provincial MLAs and a representative of the Institut National d’Excellence en Santé et en Services Sociaux (INESSS) also took part.
The HMR Foundation joins Myeloma Canada to offer warmest congratulations for this well-deserved recognition, and for their contribution to the fight for equitable access to myeloma treatment. We are proud to count on such dedicated people to foster HMR research efforts and patient care.
The Next Edition of the Défi Cyclo-Myélome
The goal of the Défi Cyclo-Myélome is to raise the public’s awareness about multiple myeloma and to raise funds for cancer research at the HMR. Cyclists and donors join forces to one day eradicate this little-known disease. They ride to pay tribute to those who are fighting the disease, to the researchers who are attempting to unmask it and to those who support the well-being of multiple myeloma sufferers.
Join us for the activity and help fight multiple myeloma, one kilometre at a time, on May 26, 2018, in the Venise-en-Québec area. Not a cycling enthusiast? Support participants by making a donation!
