$172,999 raised for the development of cell therapy at the 23rd HMR Foundation Golf Tournament
24 September 2018
Montreal, September 20, 2018 – Around 115 golfers took to the greens at the prestigious Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club on September 19, 2018, for the 23rd edition of the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) Foundation Golf Tournament. Wrapping up the event that evening with an auction announced by former Montreal Canadiens forward Yvon Lambert, the benefit event raised $172,999 to support the cell therapy revolution taking place at HMR.
“On behalf of the patients at HMR who stand to benefit from the innovative treatments developed thanks to this financial support, I wish to express our deepest gratitude to all participants and to the event’s generous partners,” said Lucie Drapeau, Executive Director of the HMR Foundation. “Supporting the project to expand our Research Centre means supporting a real revolution in the treatment of cancer and other yet incurable diseases using cellular therapy.”
The HMR Foundation would like to recognize the invaluable contribution of the Organizing Committee for this 23rd edition, co-chaired by Marc Verreault, Vice-President of Construction at Pomerleau, and Pierre Paquet, Partner at Miller Thomson. And last but not least, the Foundation wishes to thank its 2018 donating partners: Pomerleau, Technosport Canada and Miller Thomson.
The cause: the cellular therapy revolution at HMR
The world-leading cell therapy researchers at HMR are perfecting and reproducing “cellular medications” programmed to repair tissues, destroy malignant cancer cells and cure the most devastating diseases of our time. These cellular medications can often be used to cure patients who do not otherwise respond to traditional treatments.
Since the Centre of Excellence for Cellular Therapy opened in 2012, cell therapy research and clinical applications have been burgeoning at HMR. Currently, the lack of space and equipment needed for this research is preventing the possibilities of this revolutionary medicine from being fully exploited. The HMR Foundation is seeking to raise $15 million for a major project, to build an additional 32,000 square feet of laboratory space dedicated to the development of clinical applications for cell therapy, which is without a doubt one of the century’s greatest medical advances.
