The 9th edition of the Défi Cyclo-Myélome, a cycling event benefiting multiple myeloma research, raised over $85,000!
Congratulations to the organizers, Maryse Bouchard and Francine Ducas, as well as to all the participants and donors who made this event a success.
Défi Cyclo-Myélome: Cycling for the cause
Since 2013, Maryse Bouchard and Francine Ducashave been organizing the Défi Cyclo-Myélome to increase awareness about multiple myeloma and raise funds for research. Over the years, more than $500,000 has been amassed in support of Dr. Richard LeBlanc’s research!
Traditionally, participants are invited to a large gathering to ride a hundred kilometres. However, in 2021, for the second year in a row, the Défi was transformed into a personal #DéfiMyelomePerso due to the pandemic.
The virtual event was held on 29 May 2021. The 68 cyclists got on their bikes to complete their route, covering at total of approximately 4,500 kilometres.

Multiple myeloma: Research is progressing
The money raised by the event contributes to the financing of the Université de Montréal’s Myeloma Canada Chair in Multiple Myeloma at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, held by Dr. Richard LeBlanc.
Multiple myeloma: What is it?
Multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow caused by abnormal behavior of a type of white blood cell, is still incurable. However, the work and research of Dr. LeBlanc and his team offer hope for future treatment.
