Montréal, October 23, 2018 – Dominique Michel was surrounded by some one hundred guests from the business community and HMR patients yesterday, at the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR), to celebrate the achievement of unprecedented fundraising objectives in support of the HMR Foundation. Over the past 5 years, $36.5 million have been raised to support major projects, such as the creation of the Integrated Cancer Centre, which was spearheaded by Ms. Michel, the Foundation’s goodwill ambassador, as well as the Centre du Savoir, which encompasses training and development laboratories.

In addition, several patient care initiatives were instigated thanks to this campaign. These include:

  • The CARs project, a unique cancer treatment using cellular therapy;
  • The Caroline Durand Chair in Cellular Therapy for Eye Diseases from Université de Montréal;
  • The mental health project, which facilitates better suicide prevention efforts for East End Montréal youth;
  • The project on prevention, awareness and the adoption of healthy life habits for children from 0 to 17 years;
  • And the family medicine unit, facilitating quick and flexible access to its clientele.

“Together, we have carried out large-scale projects for the HMR, for the people of Montréal’s east end and for the advancement of cutting-edge research that will benefit the people of Quebec,” declared Pierre Nelis, Chair of the HMR Foundation Board of Directors. “We wish to express our most heartfelt thanks to the campaign co-presidents, to the members of the event cabinet and organizing committee, as well as to all of our donors. A special thank you goes out to Dominique Michel, who has enabled the HMR Foundation to shine on every stage.”

“We are deeply grateful for all the support we have received. Thank you to everyone who got involved with us and believed in the cause by agreeing to support this great hospital. We are proud of the amount of money that has been raised, and we are especially proud of the very concrete initiatives that will benefit HMR patients,” declared fundraising campaign co-presidents Christiane Germain, Co-President, Groupe Germain and Denis Berthiaume, Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Desjardins Group.

Guests received a warm welcome from Lulu Hughes and the Croire Fund choir, a group of choral singers who have been treated for cancer at the HMR. A powerful, emotional and inspiring moment for all of the business community volunteers who have contributed to this unprecedented success.

HMR Foundation goodwill ambassador Dominique Michel declared: “Thank you so much! I sincerely hope that the extraordinary mobilization inspired by the J’appuie Dodo Campaign will remain alive, so that it may continue to support the best of tomorrow’s medicine today!”
